The
Very Rev. René John was born in Trinidad and Tobago. He
was elected the seventh Dean of Trinity Cathedral,
Trenton, New Jersey in October, 2006.
He
is married to Andrea nee Sandiford and is the father of
twin daughters, Gabrielle and Gemelle and a son, Akeem.
In June they will celebrate their 25th
wedding anniversary.
Dean John has been ordained for twenty-five years, and
has served many congregations in his homeland of
Trinidad and Tobago and New York, prior to becoming the
Dean of Trinity Cathedral.
He
has served on several Boards and Ecclesiastical Bodies
in Trinidad, New York and New Jersey. St. Thomas
Episcopal Senior Citizens Housing Development
Corporation, Family Service Network of New York,
Corporation for Relief of Widows and Orphans, Diocese of
Long Island Commission on Ministry, Diocesan Council,
Mobile Meals of Trenton/Ewing, and Standing Committee of
the Diocese of New Jersey.
Dean
John is a graduate of Codrington College/University of
the West Indies. At present he is completing a Masters
in Sacred Theology with a focus on Christian
Spirituality at General Theological Seminary.
He
is the recipient of several honors by community and
civic groups. Pastor of the Year - Church Women United
of Brooklyn, Community Service Award – Trinidad and
Tobago Alliance North America. In 2005 he was awarded a
National Clergy Renewal Program Sabbatical Grant by
Lilly Endowment Inc. He has also received several
proclamations by Borough President of New York and the
City Council of New York.
Dean
John is an avid traveler and conductor of several
pilgrimages. He has led pilgrims to Israel, Egypt,
Ghana, Turkey, Greece, Rome, Ethopia and South Africa.
He also enjoys reading, and photography.
Dean John is committed to church and community working
as a team. In the communities and congregations he has
served, he fostered relationships which worked to the
mutual benefit of both parties. |
